RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
REHOUSE
The European R&D project we are working on together with other important Italian and international partners for energy retrofitting in the building sector.

OUR COMMITMENT
An innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective thermal storage system.
Rehouse is a project co-funded by the European Commission within the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.
Its goal is to improve the efficiency of building renovation and energy retrofitting activities through the development of innovative solutions which, when implemented on a large scale, can help accelerate the current renovation rate. In particular, the Rehouse project involves the retrofitting of four residential buildings in Greece, Hungary, France, and Italy.
Steel Tech is developing its system for the Italian demo site, which foresees the energy renovation of a four-story social housing building with 8 apartments, totaling 880 m², located in Margherita di Savoia.

REAL ESTATE IN EUROPE
Most of the European real estate stock is old and inefficient, and renovating it in a short time is a key measure for the decarbonization process and for tackling energy poverty.
OUR SYSTEM
The STEH, Smart Thermal Energy Hub, is an innovative system for managing and storing energy produced from renewable sources and cogeneration systems. Based on a revolutionary stratified thermal battery that uses organic phase-change materials, it represents an energy storage solution that is cost-effective, safe, and harmless to both health and the environment.
ADVANTAGES
The storage system, using natural and recycled materials for heat recovery, is sustainable both environmentally and economically, as it does not rely on polluting or expensive substances. It can interface with different renewable sources — electrical, thermal, and cogeneration systems — and can be integrated with heat pumps, offering energy recovery and efficiency in a compact volume. STEH is an intelligent system, managed by an algorithm that optimizes its operation and its connection with energy production and management systems, home automation, and Industry 4.0. The storage system can also be implemented within production processes, especially those that generate large amounts of heat or steam, enabling effective heat recovery. Thanks to its features, STEH represents a true hub for energy communities.
