The development and implementation of an innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective thermal storage system.
Rehouse is a project co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.
The goal is to improve the efficiency of building renovation and energy retrofitting activities through the development of innovative solutions that, when implemented on a large scale, can help accelerate the current renovation rate. Specifically, the Rehouse project involves the retrofitting of four residential buildings in Greece, Hungary, France, and Italy.
Steel Tech is developing its system for the Italian demo site, which includes the energy retrofitting of a four-story social housing building with eight apartments, totaling 880 m², located in Margherita di Savoia.

OUR SYSTEM
The STEH, Smart Thermal Energy Hub, is an innovative system for managing and storing energy generated from renewable energy sources and cogeneration systems. Based on a revolutionary stratified thermal battery that utilizes organic phase-change materials, it offers a cost-effective, safe, and environmentally friendly energy storage solution that poses no risk to health.
THE BENEFITS
The storage system, utilizing natural and recycled materials for thermal recovery, is both environmentally and economically sustainable as it does not rely on polluting or costly substances. It is compatible with various renewable energy sources—electrical, thermal, and cogeneration systems—and can be integrated with heat pumps, offering energy recovery and efficiency in a compact volume. The STEH is an intelligent system, managed by an algorithm that optimizes its operation and connectivity with energy production and management systems, home automation, and Industry 4.0. The storage system can also be implemented within industrial processes, particularly those generating significant heat or steam, enabling thermal recovery. Thanks to its features, the STEH serves as a true hub for energy communities.
